Abstract

Aim: The study looked at employees work life balance and how it affects employee performance
in public hospitals in Kaduna metropolis.
Methods: Employee work life balance was proxied by work family priorities, conflict and
employee assistance programs. The dependent variable was employee performance. The
population of the study comprised of the employees in the public hospital in Kaduna metropolis.
116 respondents participated using the census sampling and the data was collected with the aid
of questionnaires. The collected data was analysed using descriptive statistics, Pearson
correlation and multiple regression.
Results: The study discovered that work family conflict priorities have a negative effect on
employee performance while employee assistance programs had a positive effect on employee
performance.
Conclusion: The study concluded that employee work life balance affects employee
performance in the public hospitals in Kaduna metropolis. The study recommends among others
that the management of public hospitals should manage the work-family conflict faced by their
employees by providing them with counselling sessions and also employing the services of
specialist to train them on how they can manage the conflict that can arise in the family and work
life of the employees.
