Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
- Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Authors’ Guidelines
The KASU Journal of Health Professions (KAJOHP) is a peer-reviewed journal published by Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Kaduna State University. The Journal encourages evidence-based, clinical and innovative research with interdisciplinary approach.
Aim and Scope:
The Journal’s aim is to disseminate high quality research in the fields of Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing Science, Physiotherapy and Radiography. Relevant articles in other health professions will also be considered for publication.
Editorial Policy
Manuscripts will be published in English. There should be a corresponding author for each manuscript. Manuscripts will be acknowledged when received and reviewed by a member of the editorial board for suitability considering the scope of the journal and adherence to instructions highlighted in the guide to authors. Articles that fulfill the criteria at this point will be considered for peer review. Those that do not fulfill the criteria will be rejected at this point.
Manuscripts cleared by a member of the editorial board will be sent to two or three expert reviewers for review. The double-blind review will be adopted in which the authors and reviewers are not aware of each other’s identify. At the end of the peer review, the decision (acceptance, minor correction, major correction or rejection) will be sent to the corresponding author. In case of manuscripts that require corrections, the corresponding author will be requested to submit response to each of the points raised by the reviewers and submit a revised version of the manuscript with corrections highlighted. For minor corrections, a member of the editorial board will give clearance for publication or resubmission while for major corrections; the reviewers will be sent the reviewed manuscript for clearance. Accepted manuscripts will be edited and formatted for publication. Galley proofs will sent to the corresponding author who is expected to return the corrected versions within 10 days.
Ethical Consideration
Researches to be submitted to KAJOHP must be carried out in accordance to the Declaration of Helsinki. Researches that require ethical approval must have gotten ethical approval from appropriate ethical committees. This must be clearly stated in the document. Consent of participants must be obtained and should be stated in the methods section of the manuscript. Identity of patients should not be revealed in the form of name, hospital number, identifiable pictures etc.
TYPES OF ARTICLES
Original Articles
Articles in this category include randomized controlled trials, diagnositic studies, outcome studies, cost effectiveness analyses, and surveys. Original articles should not be more than 3000 words (excluding Abstract, references and Tables). They should be structured (abstract, introduction, materials/methods, results, discussion, references. References should not exceed 30.
Review Articles
Review articles include narrative reviews and systematic reviews. They should not be more than 5000 words. The review should be structured (e.g. introduction, article selection, review, discussion, references). There should be not more than 60 references.
Short Communications
Short communications should not be more than 1500 words. They should have a maximum of two tables or figures and not more than 15 references.
Case Reports/Case series
This should be between 1000 and 1500 words. Up to 3 tables or figures can be included. References should not be more than 15.
Letter to the Editor
Correspondences on editorials or articles that have appeared in KAJOHP can be submitted.
ARTICLE SUBMISSION
Manuscripts should be submitted to KAJOHP either online through http://journal.kasu.edu.ng/index.php/kajohp/submission/wizard or through the Editor-in-chief at kajohp@kasu.edu.ng. Authors are not required to pay submission fee. However, authors are expected to pay publication fee of twenty thousand naira (N20,000) only after acceptance of their manuscripts.
Authors should comply with ‘Authors Guidelines’ to avoid delay in processing the manuscripts. Manuscripts that do not conform to the guidelines will be returned to authors for compliance before peer review is done. The manuscript should be submitted in four separate documents:
Covering letter
- statement that the manuscript has been read and approved by all the authors, that each author believes that the manuscript represents honest work
- Conflicts of Interest of each author
Title Page/covering letter
1. Title of the manuscript, running title, names of all authors with designations and
affiliations, word count for both the abstract and main body of the article (excluding the
references, tables and abstract). Any information with authors identity should be included in
this file.

4. The name, address, e-mail, and telephone number of the corresponding author, who is
responsible for communicating with the other authors about revisions and final approval
of the proofs.

Manuscript Preparation Manuscripts should be double line-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 font size, unjustified, with headings and subheadings in bold case. It should be submitted as a word doc.
Abstract This should not exceed 250 words. The abstract should be structured and summarized to contain study background, aim, materials and methods, results and conclusions. Three to seven keywords should be given.
Main Text The text should include Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion and References.
Citation and References Citations and References should be in Vancouver style. Citations should be written as superscripts surrounded by squared bracket at the end of the sentence, after a full stop. All references should be cited. References should be listed in a numerical order in the Reference section in the order in which they appear in the text.

Tables Tables should be cited using Arabic numerals in the text (Table 1, Table 2, etc.). Only horizontal rules should be used. Abbreviations that are not standard should be written in full in the footnotes. Permission to use borrowed tables should be indicated in the footnote.
Figures
Figures should be numbered according to how they are cited in the text. Permission to use borrowed figures should be indicated in the legend. The Journal reserves the right to crop, rotate, reduce, or enlarge photographs to more suitable size.
