Abstract

This study examines the impact of top management commitment on the operational
performance of Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) in Niger State, Nigeria. A quantitative
research design was adopted, utilizing a structured five-point Likert scale questionnaire
administered to 260 bank employees, including top managers, senior managers, and
frontline operational staff across various banking institutions. Data were analyzed using
correlation and multiple regression techniques in SPSS to assess the relationship between
top management commitment and operational performance. Findings indicate a significant
positive influence of managerial commitment on banking efficiency, with customer
satisfaction having the strongest impact, followed by risk management and technological
innovation. The study concludes that effective leadership enhances risk mitigation, fosters
innovation, and improves customer service, leading to better operational performance. It
recommends that banks strengthen risk control mechanisms, invest in advanced financial
technologies, and enhance customer experience through personalized banking solutions.
These findings contribute to the growing literature on leadership effectiveness in the
Nigerian banking sector, emphasizing the critical role of strategic managerial commitment
in sustaining operational excellence.
