Adoption and Use of Emerging Technologies for Library Services Delivery in Universities in Katsina State

Abstract

The study investigated adoption and use of emerging technologies for delivery of Library
Services in universities in Katsina State Nigeria. Survey research design was employed for the
study. The population of the study comprised library staff of all the public universities available
in the State under study. A sample of 144 respondents was drawn based on Krejcie and
Morgan`s Table of sample size determination. Questionnaire was the research instrument used
for the collection of data. The quantitative data collected was analyzed using descriptive
statistics with the aid of SPSS statistical tool/software. The findings of the study revealed that
radio-frequency identification device (RFID), institutional repository and block chain
technology are the types of emerging technologies largely available in the libraries involved
in the study. The finding also revealed that the respondents mostly used RFID and institutional
repositories to deliver information services to users. The study further found that the major
challenges faced by the respondents in the adoption and use of emerging technologies in the
delivery of services which include inadequate skills, insufficient funding and erratic power
supply.
